Mississippi Mother Enraged After Officers Detained Her 10-Year-Old Son For Peeing Behind Her Car

A Mississippi mother was left distraught after her 10-year-old son was reportedly detained and taken to jail for public urination.

According to documents obtained by WHBQ, Latonya Eason, was handling legal matters in an attorney’s office when she was interrupted by an officer about a concern dealing with her son. The officer claimed he caught her son, Quantavious, outside urinating behind her car.

Latonya then asked her son why he did it. He responded with “Mom, my sister said they ain’t got a bathroom in there.,” She responded, “Well, you knew better. You should have came and asked me if they had a restroom.”

Latonya claims the officer said he planned on giving the boy a warning and letting him get back into the car until several other officers reportedly showed up to the scene. Officers then told Latonya they had to take her son down to the station.

“I started crying a little bit. They took me down there and got me out of the truck. I didn’t know what was happening,” Quantavious said. “I get scared and start shaking and thinking I’m going to jail.”

Quantavious was reportedly charged with a child in need of services, then released to his mother. As for Latonya, she is still enraged. “That could really traumatize my baby,” she said. “My baby could get to the point where he don’t wanna have an encounter with police – period.

The county police chief issued a statement about the incident claiming that it was a mistake and that the officer responsible did not see a parent on the scene initially.

“Under these circumstances, it was an error in judgement for us to transport the child to the police station since the mother was present at that time as a reasonable alternative,” he said. The Chief added that the boy was reportedly not handcuffed during the incident.
