Mother Facing Murder Charges After Police Found Her 10-Year-Old Son In Garbage Can. He Had Been Dead For 7 Months

A Rock Island, Illinois woman has been charged for the death of her 10-year old son, after police found his body in a trash can at her home in the garage.

According to the New York Post, her sons body was discovered seven months after he died under suspicious circumstances.

Police came to the discovery after another woman tipped them off with several phone calls regarding strange comments Staples made about her son, Zion Staples, stating that Staples told her, “Christmases would never be the same.”

In addition, Staples lied to the police about her son’s identity and whereabouts, claimed she had no son, and that his birth certificate was fraudulent.

She received felony charges for failure to report the death of a child under 13, concealment of death, and obstruction of justice. Staples appeared in court on July 28th and is awaiting her hearing that is schedule for August 15th.

The news has since gone viral on social media garnering lots of reactions from folks online. “What’s even sadder is that boy didn’t have a father or relative to notice he has been missing for seven months,” someone commented.

“This type of stuff is happening too often. Can we mentally evaluate parents annually maybe,” another person wrote.
