Former New Jersey Nets Player Terrence Williams Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison For Orchestrating A Scheme To Steal $5M From NBA Health Care Plan
Former New Jersey Nets player, Terrence Williams, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for orchestrating a scheme to steal $5M from the NBA’s health care plan.
According to the New York Post, He admitted to the crime last August that included 18 other former NBA players who also participated in defrauding the NBA career health plan.
Between 2017 and 2021, it’s alleged that Terrence and 18 others, including several doctors, defrauded the association by sending in false invoices in exchange for reimbursement of medical and dental expenses to the health care plan officials.

In addition to his prison time, Terrence will also pay back $3.1M in restitution and forfeitures.
Williams was drafted by the New Jersey Nets with the 11th overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft and was signed to a four-year contract. In the teams’ now annual summer workouts, he dazzled his teammates and coaches with his athleticism, defense, and passing.
He recorded his first career triple-double April 9, 2010, with 27 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists in the Nets double overtime win over the Chicago Bulls 127–116.
On November 26, 2010, the Nets sent Williams to the Springfield Armor of the NBA D-League. Williams was recalled on December 7, 2010.
