1-Year-Old Dies At Daycare In First Week After Accidental Fentanyl Overdose

1-Year-Old Dies At Daycare In First Week After Accidental Fentanyl Overdose

A 1-year-old baby has died after he accidentally overdosed on fentanyl while at daycare. According to CBS, Nicholas Feliz-Dominici has been identified as the deceased toddler that lost his life at the Divino Nino Daycare in Bronx, NY on Friday afternoon.

Three other toddlers were also rushed to the hospital for exposure to the fentanyl as well, but they are currently in stable condition. Authorities say the day care workers put the children down for a nap Friday afternoon, and then some of them would not wake up. Police sources say the first responders administered Narcan to the babies and it worked for at least one of the babies.

Police found a kilo press inside the home-based day care that they suspected was in connection with the overdose. The DEA has joined the investigation into his death. “This is an item that is commonly used by drug dealers when packaging large quantities of drugs,” said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said during an overnight news conference.

Otoniel Feliz, the father of the 1-year-old, spoke exclusively to the Daily Mail about this tragedy. He said this was the baby’s first week at the daycare and he never suspected anything to happen to his son.

“It was his first week,” he said. “This was his first week. We had a good recommendation. We were told it was a great place. It looked like a nice place,” he explained.

Otoniel explained that his wife, who asked not to be identified, had gone to pick Nicholas up early because she missed him. When she got to the daycare, she found out ‘something’ had happened. “My wife called me saying our child is going to hospital. We thought he was fine. 10 minutes later, my wife called me back on the way to the hospital and said he was died,” he explained, fighting back tears.

Police are still investigating the situation and no arrest have been made yet. This is so sad.
