Florida Football Coach Suspends Himself After Video Shows Him Cussing Out A Player

A Florida football coach has suspended himself after video went viral of him verbally obliterating his player in a hotel.

In the viral video, Derek Jenks, 45, can be seen cursing out Alvin Day in front of some of the players at Southwest Florida Preparatory and Technical Institute.

The reason behind the verbal altercation isn’t known, but based on the video, it seems the players were used to this behavior because they seemed unfazed by the verbal abuse.

After the video was posted online, Jenks immediately posted an apology video with Alvin Day by his side. He expressed his regret of his behavior and his decision to step away from the football program.

“I’m going to do what I can to seek mentorship [for] myself to be able to become a better coach [and] mentor to my players and so that I can make sure this never happens again,” Jenks said in the video.

“I’m glad he’s holding himself to the same standard that he held us to,” Day said. “I’m hoping we can move forward.”
