More Than 100 People Dead After Fireworks Cause Devastating Fire At An Iraq Wedding

A Iraqi newly-wed couple is in deep mourning after their extravagant wedding claimed the lives of over 100 people, including the brides immediate family.

According to Sky News, the bride, 18-year-old Hansen, and groom, 27-year-old Revan, are “dead inside” after what was such a lovely event quickly turned to tragedy.

In footage from the wedding, the couple were sharing their first dance, accompanied by fireworks, when the building caught on fire. It sent the entire building into a panic frenzy with everyone trampling over each other to reach safety.

Out of 900 guests, more than 100 lost their lives and 150 were injured. Revan said he lost 15 members of his family in the fire, adding his bride “can’t speak” after the loss of 10 of her relatives including her mom, dad, and brother.

“I mean, every time we try to have some happiness, something tragic happens to us and destroys the happiness. So, it’s best for us to leave,” he said. He added: “It’s true that we’re sitting here in front of you alive. But inside we are dead. We are numb. We are dead inside,” he said.

“Our relatives, our friends, our loved ones are all gone.. Two days ago we buried her [Haneen’s] uncle and his two daughters. Yesterday we buried her other uncle. Today we buried his daughter and we buried her mother,” Revan said.

“My aunt died. My sister had burns. Her husband has burns all over his body. My uncle lost 7 members. So many people. And every day we hear more news.”
