YNW Melly Trial Start Date Delayed Until February

A judge has granted a request from YNW Melly’s prosecutors for extra time to prepare for the Florida rapper’s double murder retrial.

Melly’s trial will now be pushed back to February 5, 2024.

Prosecutors Alixandra Buckelew, Taylor Collins and Justin Griffis cited recent developments in the case, including the removal of lead prosecutor Kristine Bradley and witness tampering charges against the Florida rapper.

Assistant State Attorney Kristine Bradley was removed because she had gone from working as a “zealous advocate for the state” to being “personally invested in the outcome of the case.”

Assistant State Attorney Michelle Boutros testified that she overheard Miramar Police Detective Mark Moretti, lead investigator in the case against the rapper, ask a Broward County deputy to lie about being present when he executed a search warrant outside his jurisdiction.

The judge did not find that Bradley’s integrity had been compromised but agreed that she could not serve as a prosecutor on the case if the defense were preparing to call her as a witness concerning the credibility of one of the investigators.
