Adele Says She Doesn’t Think Anyone Should Be Covering Her Songs

During an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Adele expressed how she’d rather people not sing her songs.

“I think I’m not the best singer in the world at all, but no one else can sing my songs like me because they didn’t write them,” she explained.

The “Rolling In The Deep” singer says the people who do cover her songs, “can’t sing.” “No one can sing my songs like me, period. They can’t sing. The lyrics are not their own. And I don’t think anyone else should sing my songs… I don’t mind it when they do, but I’m just saying they’re never going to be able to emote it,” she continued.

To be fair, Adele said the same could be said of her. “Same way that I can’t sing other people’s songs. I didn’t write the lyrics, and I can’t sing as well as them.”

She is known for her mezzo-soprano vocals and sentimental songwriting. Adele has received numerous accolades including 16 Grammy Awards, 12 Brit Awards (including three for British Album of the Year), an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Golden Globe Award.

Adele is one of the world’s best-selling music artists, with sales of over 120 million records worldwide. The best-selling female artist of the 21st century in the UK, she was named the best-selling artist of the 2010s decade in the US and worldwide.

Her studio albums 21 and 25 were the top two best-selling albums of the 2010s in the UK and both are listed among the best-selling albums in UK chart history, while in the US both are certified Diamond, the most of any artist who debuted in the 21st century.
