Mother Breaks Down In Tears After 29-Year-Old Man Is Arrested For Allegedly Killing Her 19-Year-Old Daughter And Leaving Her Body In Burning Vehicle

An Edenton man has been charged with the murder of a victim believed to be 19-year-old Amarriah Smith.

Jordan Isaiah Thomas, 29, was arrested after police discovered a body believed to be Amarriah Smith in a charred vehicle. Amarriah’s family tells us that they believe the car was stolen by the suspect.

While details are still pending, her family also tells us that neighbors saw the alleged suspect carrying Amarriah’s body from her home. In a statement to WITN news, Amarriah’s mother, Terkessah Owens, says their daughter was stolen from them.

“Somebody stole her from us”she said. “This grown man preying on young girls..My child fell victim because she probably was the weaker one.”

Amarriah was a student at Elizabeth City State. She knew the suspect because she would visit his tattoo shop that was near the University.

Amarriah’s father says they recently learned Thomas had harmed other women years prior, including shooting one.

Thomas has been charged with concealing the death of a person and larceny of a motor vehicle. Let’s keep this family in our prayers.
