Ashanti Announces She Is Pregnant, Expecting Her First Child With Nelly And They’re Engaged

Congratulations are in order for Ashanti and Nelly after the singer announced that she is pregnant with her and the rapper‘s first child. It’s a double celebration as the couple also announced they are engaged.

The 43 year old R&B star announced the pregnancy news via an Instagram video which shows her getting ready for a performance.

A handler and her mother, Tina Douglas, take turns asking her how much time she needs until she’s ready, Ashanti then steps out to say, “I’m going to need about nine months.”

In the caption, Ashanti simply wrote: “Baby baby baby baby….” Nelly, 49, also posted the video to his own Instagram.

Ashanti announced her engagement to Essence, telling the outlet, “This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation. Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”

The lovers first dated in 2003 before ending things in 2013 and then rekindling their romance in 2023. Nelly confirmed their new relationship last September, in an interview with Love and Hip Hop‘s Rasheeda and Kirk Frost.

Ashanti’s mother Tina Douglas confirmed the pregnancy last month, prior to the couple’s official announcement. Tina hinted at the pregnancy during an interview with Antoine Edwards.

“There’s been no announcement. It hasn’t come out yet,” she said to the audience at the time. “It is public, don’t get it twisted,” she added. “But it hasn’t been officially announced.”
