100 Unvaccinated Staff At Yale New Haven Health Are Fired

100 employees at the Yale-New Haven Health system have lost their jobs after failing to get the Coronavirus vaccine.

According to the reports, the employees were given a deadline of Monday to get the jab after the mandate was put in place on June 30 for all Connecticut hospitals.

“We did pretty well, I think, all things considered,” Associate Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Ohm Deshpande said to the New Haven Register. “We’re at 94 at this moment who are subject to termination. They’re getting notified today that they’re being separated from the organization.”

Employees were permitted to request a medical exemption for religious or medical reasons, around 700 were granted.

“Many more applied but not all of them received them,” Deshpande said ro the Register. “They’re the only ones who will get weekly testing.”

In addition, per FOX 61 a rep said that the number of terminated employees could increase depending on who gets the second dose of the vaccine.

“A number of our employees will become eligible to receive their second dose within the coming weeks. As long as they receive that second dose, they will not be terminated and they are not included in the aforementioned number,” the rep added.

“We are working with leaders and employees to ensure compliance with our policy in an effort to provide [the] safest environment for patients and staff.”
