Teacher Arrested For Plotting A School Shooting After Her Threatening Hand Written Notes Were Found

An Iowa teacher was arrested after police discovered she wrote multiple threatening notes where she wanted to commit a school shooting on the property.

The teacher, identified as 37-year-old Katrina Phelan, was arrested and charged with three felony counts of threats of terrorism.

Before the arrest, Phelan was an educator at Abraham Lincoln High School and turned herself in to police on Dec. 1 as reported by Insider. Her handwritten notes were discovered on November 19, 18, and 23 and they were reportedly found in various locations around the school.

“When interviewed, Phelan admitted to writing the notes. It was determined that she had no intentions or means of carrying out these threats. In at least one of the notes, Phelan, posing as an unnamed student, wrote that she was tired of being made fun of,” said the Council Bluffs Police Department in a press statement.

Phelan claims she doesn’t remember writing the notes but she added that she only wrote them due to being frustrated about controlling her classroom. If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison for each charge.

The high school sent a letter out to parents confirming Phelan’s termination and arrest.
