Kodak Black showed off a new herpes sore on Live last week, and now he’s trying to defend his reasoning behind it.

Almost immediately after bragging to fans about his new cold sore – commenters pointed out that cold sores are caused by the herpes virus.

It’s true. Cold sores are caused by a virus – the herpes simplex virus (HSV). There are two types of herpes simplex virus that can cause cold sores: HSV type 1 and HSV type 2. Cold sores are usually caused by HSV type 1. The HSV type type 2 is more commonly found with genital herpes.

You usually catch HSV when you come into contact with people or things that carry the virus. For instance, you can get it from kissing someone who’s infected or when you share eating utensils, towels, or razors.

Here’s the video, of Kodak Black bragging about the sore.

Kodak Black gained initial recognition following his 2014 song “No Flockin”. Its success led him to sign a recording contract with Atlantic Records. The song was re-released commercially as his debut single the following year, and subsequently “No Flockin” marked his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 two years later.

Kodak Black’s career has been marked by periods of mainstream success, as well as public controversies and legal issues. His legal troubles began in middle school and spiked crucially throughout the late 2010s.

The Florida rapper was accused of rape in 2016 and faced the charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in South Carolina. He was given a plea bargain in 2021 to the lesser offense of assault and battery and was sentenced to probation.

In 2019, Black was arrested for making false statements to possess weapons and was sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison; his sentence was commuted by President Donald Trump in 2021.
