#SurvivingRKelly : Kendrick Lamar Gets Dragged Into The Discussion
Kendrick Lamar Gets Dragged In
Kendrick Lamar, one of the current generation’s most “woke” artists, is being dragged once again for supporting R Kelly‘s music.

In efforts to sustain R Kelly‘s musical legacy, and perhaps set a precedent of separating artists horrific behaviors from their art and avoiding lasting repercussions on their careers, Kendrick Lamar’s reps urged Spotify to retain the R&B icon’s music on its platform.
They did so while threatening to pull his catalog from under their banner. Since Surviving R Kelly has reignited society’s concern with how alleged predators are perceived, the sympathizers of the accused are also being scrutinized.
Social media users are wondering Kendrick Lamar’s actions were met with a virtual shrug.

BuzzFeed’s Saeed Jones tweeted:
“I keep thinking about Kendrick Lamar actively campaigning (and succeeding) in getting R. Kelly and XXXTentacles put back on Spotify last year in response to the #MuteRKelly movement.

May 2018: “Spotify recently rolled out a new hate content policy. R. Kelly and XXXTentacion were the first two artists affected by the policy, though at the urging of Kendrick Lamar, Spotify is already amending its stance.” https://t.co/ysJ8WInjsR— Saeed Jones (@theferocity) January 4, 2019
Remember when Spotify tried to stop promoting R. Kelly’s music, and ya boy Kendrick Lamar threatened to take his music off the platform, completely. 🙃☕️— Genie Lauren (@MoreAndAgain) January 4, 2019

Kendrick Lamar made a huge fuss about Spotify trying to stop R. Kelly streams. So….there’s that. pic.twitter.com/g4Iro23BUw— T Λ R Λ 🌹 (@flowerrebelrose) January 6, 2019
I personally feel Kendrick did it because of the overall theme of “censorship of music” a lot of the artist being targeted are in fact black. And that can then become problematic down the line . I don’t think Kendrick was thinking more so about wether or not R Kelly was a rapist— 🔑 (@RenachiWorld) January 4, 2019
