Lizzo Dragged For Disrespecting Late John Witherspoon In Her Tweet
Legendary comedian John Witherspoon ‘Pops’ passed away at 77 on Tuesday night and the world is still mourning the loss of a hero.
John David took to twitter to mourn his dad’s death, sharing a series of sweet childhood memories.
“So… my Dad died today & honestly I’m not sure how to feel. I’m sad, but I’m also happy 4 all the great times we had together. We’d roast each other like homes more than Father & Son, and I really liked that. He was my best friend & idol,” John David expressed.
“Love U Dad… I’ll miss u,” he tweeted.
While many celebrities have also been reacting to the death by paying emotional tributes, Lizzo on the other hand is being accused of disrespecting pops in her tweet.
In the said tweet, Lizzo wrote, “I’m not gon lie I’m still sad about Pops… but I gotta do promo.”
Her tweet rubbed many people the wrong way, as they assumed that the “Truth Hurts” rapper didn’t really care about John’s death.
“She’s actually disgusting. Can we leave her behind in this decade,” one said, as another wrote, “Do the promo but don’t tweet that maan u look desperate for charts.”

“I’m still sad about pops but I have to do promo today.”

ok but she didn’t have to mention pops lmao if she wanted to promote she should’ve left him out the tweet altogether it’s disrespectful that she’s making promoting that flop song seem more important than someone’s death

She could have not just said anything or mentioned pops. Post the promo and go! It’s not like anyone was looking for her to pay homage to Pops. Lizzo like her Uber Eat scandal just needs to type sh*t in her group text or iOS notes. https://t.co/g7K1Mf6kfQ

I saw what Lizzo said and I think social media has people confused about how to handle death and their platform. She could’ve easily done her promo without including Pops. Her comment is what made it tacky not her “need” to do promo. Which still…could’ve waited but whatever.

After the backlash, Lizzo deleted the tweet and clarified herself.
“Bruh I was just expressing that I’m sad and didn’t wanna do anything today… I was definitely misinterpreted. Hope y’all have a nice day. I’m checking out,” she said.
