Rolling Stone Names “The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill” Greatest Album Ever
Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time Causes Debate Online
On Tuesday, Rolling Stone decided to stir up debate on social media by dropping their list for the 500 greatest albums of all time. Of course there are some misconceptions amongst fans on social media.
The publication started the listing in 2003 so the they decided to give their massive undertaking an update, and the position they gave Lauryn Hill has caused uproar amongst Hip Hop fans.
“You should be able to play an album the 101st time and find something new,” said the outlet’s reviews editor, Jon Dolan. “I was shocked listening to The Velvet Underground & Nico. I thought, ‘This really holds up.’ And that’s what’s incredible — to find the music that’s part of a conversation that goes on your whole life.”
Aside from the full list itself, Rolling Stone also named their top five rap albums of all time. In reverse order, the list includes Biggie’s Ready to Die, Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly, Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Public Enemy’s It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, and in the top spot, Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Each song was driven by a clarity of vision and personal honesty that felt revelatory,” RS wrote about Hill’s debut project. “At a time when pop was becoming increasingly slick and digitized in the go-go Nineties, here was an album that showed the commercial appeal of a rawer sound.”
Lauryn Hill’s position was met with an onslaught of reactions, including those who said Miseducation was more R&B than rap, so check out a few below and let us know if Rolling Stone got it right with their top five.

lauryn hill hardly raps on miseducation i never got why so many people call it a rap project. i’ve always looked at it as r&b

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill should not be top 10 ever. No

Nope. Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is not a Rap album. Just because Ms. Hill raps doesn’t mean the album should be classified rap. Especially one heavily influenced by R&B. That’s laziness Rolling Stone. pic.twitter.com/Bgi2Le5gyi

Big shake up at @RollingStone with this new #RS500Albums list. Lauren Hill’s “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” better than “Revolver”? WTF? But!! We do agree that “Abbey Road” is the Beatles best record.
You lost me ROLLING STONE!! What have you done?!?! Bad Bunny? 😆

No. I don’t agree.
Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is a great album but if Rolling Stone truly knew anything about “rap” albums at all, this conclusion would have never been reached.😂 https://t.co/PgKgLEFa1Z
