A mass shooter opened fire on a group of students who were partying on the campus at Grambling State University early Sunday. At least one person was killed and 19 others were injured, some seriously.

The shooter opened fire at about 1 a.m. outside a dining hall where students were celebrating a homecoming event — forcing attendees to lock down and shelter in place.

One victim was a student enrolled at the university. That person is being treated at a local hospital for unspecified injuries, the university said in a statement.

The identities of the other seven victims have not been released to the public. Police have not yet identified a suspect either.

Frightening cellphone footage leaked online, and it shows the moments the shots were fired, sending students fleeing for their lives.

As of mid-September, according to the New York Times, hundreds of shootings have occurred this year with 21 of them resulting in a mass murder.

According to the Times, a mass murder is where four of more people are killed.
