Cheslie Kryst’s Mother April Simpkins Breaks Silence Over Daughter’s Death
The internet was shocked at the death of 2019’s Miss USA Cheslie Kryst, who committed suicide on the 30th of January. the model’s mother April Simpkins has broken her silence — revealing that her daughter secretly battled “high-functioning depression.”
On Wednesday (February 2), Simpkins emotionally wrote on Instagram, “I have never known a pain as deep as this. I am forever changed.”
“Today, what our family and friends privately knew was the cause of death of my sweet baby girl, Cheslie, was officially confirmed. While it may be hard to believe, it’s true. Cheslie led both a public and a private life.”

She continued, “In her private life, she was dealing with high-functioning depression which she hid from everyone — including me, her closest confidant — until very shortly before her death.”
Simpkins goes on to speak about who her daughter was to her family and to the world. She ends by asking for continued respect of privacy and donations to organizations.“In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Dress for Success, an organization that was dear to her heart.
