Man Bags 25 Years In Prison After Attacking Sleeping Woman With Metal Tortilla Frying Pan

24-year-old Deshawn Avila has been sentenced to 25 years to life. Avila has been convicted in Aurora, Colorado after attacking a woman who was sleeping with a tortilla frying pan, according to 9News.

He was found guilty of five counts, including, second-degree attempted murder, two counts of attempted sexual assault, first-degree assault – strangulation, and first-degree assault – serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon.

Back in 2018, Avila and the victim went to a Denver bar in the evening as the two were close friends. According to the district attorney, the victim viewed the suspect as a cousin despite not being related.

When the two arrived back home, Avila slept in the woman’s room while she slept in her son’s room. Avila then went into the woman’s son’s room and hit the woman in the head with a frying pan as she slept.

The woman bled and woke up to an incision on her forehead as her pants were pulled down. The victim tried the escape; however, Avila choked her. Luckily, the woman was able to flee and Avila was arrested later on.

Brian Mason, the District Attorney, said, “for this defendant to ambush his close friend in the middle of the night, smash her in the head with a tortilla pan, attempt to assault her sexually, and then strangle her is truly beyond explanation.”
