Father Of Highland Park Shooter Helped Son Buy A Gun Two Months After Cops Took Away His Collection Of Knives

The father of the alleged Highland Park shooter helped him get a gun even though it appears there were signs he was unfit.

According to TMZ, police officials say Robert Crimo received help from his father in obtaining a gun permit in 2020.

He allegedly sponsored his then 19-year-old son for a firearm owner’s identification card, which he needed to buy a semi-automatic weapon. despite alarming incidents just months earlier.

Police have revealed that this is not their first run-in with the alleged shooter. The first incident took place in 2019 in which Crimo threatened to kill himself, and another where he threatened to kill his own family. Cops say the latter resulted in him having multiple knives temporarily taken by law enforcement after his parents refused to press charges and Crimo told them he wasn’t a danger to himself and others.

Crimo’s parents issued a statement, saying they empathized with everyone affected and that their thoughts and prayers were with the victims’ families.

“We are all mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, and this is a terrible tragedy for many families, the victims, the paradegoers, the community, and our own. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to everybody.”

Police say Crimo was able to get his hands on the weapon used in Monday’s killing because there was technically no reason to deny him especially since his father signed off on it.
