Boy Dies After Falling From A 10th-Story Apartment Balcony Due To Faulty Door Lock

A 4-year old boy, Jayden, from the Bronx fell to his death from a 10th-story residence due to a faulty lock on the balcony door on July 24, 2021. Now, his parents are suing their former landlord for his death.

According to the New York Post, Jayden’s mother, Yandra Minaya, panicked when she noticed she couldn’t hear him in the other room anymore, while she was giving her youngest a bath.

Minaya went to the balcony to look for her son and found his body on the ground of the sidewalk 10 stories below her. He was taken to a local hospital but died from his injuries three days later.

Her husband and Jayden’s father, Edward Castillo, gave a statement, saying, “If it wasn’t for our daughter, she would have gone after our son.”

It’s revealed by Edward that the family had only been in their apartment for at least 3 weeks and that he spoke to the property manager about getting the faulty lock fixed two to three days after moving in.

Castillo says he had to quit his job following his son’s death and has been jobless since. Both Castillo and Minaya are suing their former landlord over the faulty lock not being fixed and leading to the death of their son.

“We had a boy and a girl…Now that we have only one, it’s kind of a reminder that [Jayden] is not here with us.”
