A Netflix Engineer Missing After Getting Into An Uber In The Bay Area Two Weeks After Moving In

A Netflix engineer is missing after getting into an Uber earlier this week down in San Jose, CA. According to DailyMail, Yohanes Kidane, 22, was seen on a security camera leaving his apartment building downtown around 7:15 p.m. on Monday before he got into a vehicle that had an Uber sticker on it, his family said to KTVU.

His cell phone, wallet and backpack were found near the Golden Gate Bridge. The recent college graduate had just moved to the area, and was in his second week at Netflix working as a software engineer.

Yohanes younger sister Sarah said her brother’s phone location showed he was at the Golden Gate Bridge Monday night. When she saw his location wasn’t moving, she reached out to her older brother to see if had talked to him, which he didn’t. That prompted family members to start calling his friends, but no one had any information about where he possibly could be.

His cell phone, wallet and backpack were found near the Golden Gate Bridge Tuesday morning by a commuter. Yohanes former college roommate said he told him a story about a suspicious Uber ride that took place just days before he disappeared.

“The Uber driver insisted, if it was an actual Uber driver, that instead of taking him to the location that he needed to be, he’s like, ‘Oh, I’m going to take you to Oakland. It’s much safer there,’” Austin Farmer told Fox News.

“And he just wouldn’t let Yohanes go where he needed to go. So they took him to downtown Oakland. I guess he eventually got back to his apartment or wherever he lives, but that was pretty suspicious.”

Yohanes allegedly texted Austin during that trip saying he “might be in trouble” and that the driver told him to cancel the extra pay. “I got a sense he’s taking me there for no good reason,” Yohanes said. When he returned to San Jose, Yohanes said he was “Never going in Uber solo again in SF.” His family has since created a GoFundMe to help in his search.
