Man Arrested After Failed Robbery Attempt Leads To Shootout With Homeowner

A man in Dallas Texas has been charged with aggravated assault, deadly conduct and attempted burglary for being involved in a deadly shootout while trying to break into a home.

The incident captured on a doorbell camera reportedly led police to the man’s arrest after it surfaced on the internet.

According to documents obtained by Fox 4, Aaron Contreras, 30, reportedly showed up outside of an apartment door claiming to be a maintenance man. “We’re checking the air filters,” He said after knocking on the door.

The home owner on the other end of the doorbell device, Ethan Rodriguez, informs Contreras that there is no one home advises him to come back another day. Shortly after Contreras and a friend show back up to the door armed and attempt to kick down the door while taking turns.

Now this is where it takes a turn y’all, while Contreras and his friend were trying to kick down the door, they had no idea Rodriguez was home and had been on his phone talking to them through the doorbell camera the entire time. Rodriquez said in that moment he didn’t know what to do.

“I check the camera to see who’s all at the door and I saw him kicking the door with a firearm and fearing for my and my brother’s life,” He said. I just let the gun go. I didn’t know what to do.” “This was a random attack,” he added. “I’m guessing he just thought this was just going to be a lucky pay day and no one’s home, free stuff to steal. No, he thought wrong.”

Dallas police say Rodriguez reportedly fired 13 rounds and the suspects fired back twice. No one was injured. Contreras was arrested two days after the incident took place. As for the second suspect, details can not be revealed due to on-going investigation.
