Mother Devastated After 3 Children Were Severely Burned In Brooklyn Apartment Fire

A mother in Brooklyn, New York is left hoping for a speedy recovery for her three children after they reportedly stopped breathing in an apartment fire. Their father, Anthony Halliburton, 38, allegedly stepped out to get groceries—the mother was at work when the incident occurred.

According to documents obtained by PIX11 News, Eight-year-old Naomi, 5-year-old Tonya and 4-year-old Anthony were trapped and ultimately passed out on the floor. A neighbor, Rahnell Texsara, and his son first detected the fire despite the smoke detectors in the building not working.

Texsara reportedly covered his face in water and made a failed attempt at breaking the door open. “It’s ridiculous! No reason kids should be left by themselves,” Texsara said. “His excuse was, ‘I was only gone for five minutes.’ I’m like, anything can happen in one minute! These are children.”

Shortly after, FDNY members broke through the door and scooped them off the floor, saving their lives. FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh made a statement on the incident. “This was a really advanced fire. The door was locked, clutter in the apartment, and it was heavily filled with smoke,” she said. It took a lot to find the kids.”

Chief of the NYPD Department, Jeffrey Maddrey, also spoke out about the incident. “Father has to deal with that, and all parents should stay with children,” he said. “We don’t leave them alone; accidents happen.”

Since then, the mother is reportedly monitoring recovery. “As long as they’re breathing, I am breathing.” She told reporters outside of a Manhattan hospital. The children are currently in the hospital under sedation hooked to ventilators.

A GoFundMe for the children has been made. As for Halliburton, he was charged on Monday with endangering the welfare of the children and later released. He promised a judge he would not have contact with the kids
