Following up on Nike and Kobe Bryant’s widow, Vanessa, reaching a deal in March for the continuation of the Kobe partnership, we’re potentially learning more about what releases the brand may have planned for 2023.

Per Sole Retriever, the Nike Kobe 8 will be returning in Protro form late next year. Bryant’s eighth Nike signature shoe debuted in 2012 and was created by longtime Nike designer Eric Avar.

There are currently no images of the forthcoming Protro shoe available but according to the leaker account, the shoe will return in a “Triple White” colorway and will be offered in full-family sizing. Thus far, Nike has brought back the Kobe 1,Kobe 4, Kobe 5, and Kobe 6 in Protro form. At the time of writing, Nike has yet to confirm the release of the Kobe 8 Protro.

Nike has confirmed details around the triple-white Kobe 8 release. Officially nicknamed “Halo,” the colorway was created by Vanessa Bryant as a way to honor Kobe’s birthday each year. It will debut on the Kobe 8 this month with annual releases on other models to come.

To update the Kobe 8 for modern playability in Protro form, Nike swapped the original model’s Lunarlon cushioning with React foam which is intended to offer both improved comfort and durability. The shoe’s outsole herringbone pattern has also been tweaked for better court traction, while an embroidered Swoosh logo replaces the original’s fused synthetic branding.

In addition to the sneaker release, Nike will hold a two-day youth basketball tournament at LA’s Crypto.com Arena beginning on Aug. 23 on culminating on Mamba Day, Aug. 24.

The Nike Kobe 8 Proto “Halo” releases Wednesday, Aug. 23, Kobe’s birthday, for a retail price of $180 on SNKRS and select global retailers. It will be available adult ($180), big kids ($120), and little kids ($90) sizing.
