A Florida woman is suing her local bakery over cake dispute that led to her being hospitalized due to stress.

According to the Daily Mail, a Florida woman named Margarita Sciapin purchased a Mocha cake from Paris Morning Bakery in Boca Raton back in January of this year and claims in her lawsuit that upon coming to the bakery to retrieve the cake, the cashier had issued her the wrong cake.

Margarita claims she asked if the cashier could “switch the cakes” in order to get the one she was paying for and that the cashier chose to suggest issuing a refund and to charge her for the mistake cake instead.

Margarita says that she decided to leave with that wrong cake in order to not be charged twice and chose not pay for it as well as not receive a refund either, telling the cashier “not to worry”. This when the bakery decided to put up thief posters with Margarita’s pictures from her social media, detailing their version of what happened.

One poster read, “This Karen thief stole a cake from us at 5 p.m. on January 22, 2023. When an employee tried to explain that our refunds don’t show up in statements immediately, she got angry, refused to believe the employee, took the cake, and left while her cake was already refunded. She was very impatient when the employee was trying to figure out how to do a refund receipt, instead of waiting, she ran off with the cake.”

While more posters were printed and posted at other Paris Morning Bakery locations, the bakery has since took them down.

This is what led to Margarita lawsuit where she claims she suffered from stress and anxiety which led her to be hospitalized and that her 12-year-old was being bullied at school as a result of the posters. Margarita is suing the bakery for $50K despite the bakery’s claims.
