12-Year-Old Boy Died In Gym Class After Being Forced To Run In Extreme Heat For Wearing The Wrong Clothes

A 12-year-old boy died after collapsing in his gym class in Lake Elsinore, California on Tuesday. Family members said his death may have been heat related, and claim a teacher ignored his pleas for help before he died.

According ABC News, Yahshua Robinson suffered a medical emergency Tuesday around 11 a.m. during his physical education class at Canyon Lake Middle School. The temperature at the time was in the 90s.

Amarna Plummer said her nephew hadn’t dressed appropriately for P.E. class and was allegedly told to run for not doing so. She said, according to other students, Yahshua started feeling ill. He was reaching out to the teacher, saying he needed some water.

He said he couldn’t breathe. He was telling the kids this,” Amarna said. Yahshua’s condition got worse, and he sadly passed out on the field, Plummer said. Emergency responders arrived at the school a little after the incident, but Yahshua was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

“Why would you have a child in his clothes – he didn’t dress out – running a field?” Amarna said. Several other people told the outlet that saw Yahshua running laps outside and was reportedly begging for water when he collapsed.

“They watched this young man, and yelled at him and told him to get up, that he was messing around,” said Katie Tinnin of Lake Elsinore. “These young kids realized he was actually in desperate need, came up and poured water on him.”

A letter was sent home to students families from the district, confirming Yahshua “showed signs of physical distress” but it did not disclose further details.
