Damson Idris Gives Special Shoutouts To His Mom & Denzel Washington After Winning NAACP Award For Best Outstanding Actor In A TV Series
Congratulations are in order for Damson Idris, after the Snowfall star won best drama actor, his first NAACP Image Award, for his role in the FX crack series, which wrapped its six-season run last year.
During his speech, Damson gave special shoutouts to his mother and legendary actor Denzel Washington. He made reference to how his mother “flew 17 hours from Lagos, Nigeria to be with him.
“She said ‘Damson, if I come to Los Angeles, you better win,’” the actor recalled before shouting out his “Snowfall family.”

Idris then revealed that he was “honored” to be “standing among” his “heroes” who won that award, those in the audience and people who make “art for the past, present and future.”
The actor also joked about Denzel Washington saying he didn’t know who Idris is. “Hopefully Denzel knows who I am now,” Damson said.
Idris first gained recognition for his outstanding performance in the British crime drama “City of Tiny Lights.” But, it was his breakout role as Franklin Saint, a young street entrepreneur navigating the crack cocaine epidemic in 1980s Los Angeles, that propelled him to stardom.
“Snowfall,” created by John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron, has been praised for its gritty portrayal of the drug trade and its impact on society. Damson’s nuanced and electrifying portrayal of Franklin Saint has earned him widespread acclaim, cementing his status as one of Hollywood’s most promising actors.
