Jussie Smollett To Spend 150 Days In Jail For Hoax Hate Crime
The sentence was issued by Judge Linn who explained to Smollett that his sentencing will include 30 months felony probation, $120,106 in restitution to the city of Chicago, and pay a $25,000 fine.
During the hearing, Linn also called the actor an “arrogant, selfish, narcissistic” person for plotting the hate crime in order to boost his profile in the social justice movement and become more famous as a result.
Additionally, Linn said Smollett’s actions also damaged the real victims of hate crimes since they are hesitant to come forward. However, he said he didn’t sentence the actor for public satisfaction but based on his own actions.

The City of Chicago’s lawyer also noted that the crime involved 30 police officers to investigate which resulted in fatigue and stress after reviewing 1500 hours of surveillance footage and going door to door for witness statements.
Smollett’s lawyer also wanted the verdict to be thrown out by Judge Linn due to the publicity from the pretrial.
As previously reported, Smollett was found guilty of 5 out of the 6 felony counts against him for lying to police about the hoax hate crime.
