Father Arrested For Killing His 1-Year-Old Daughter With A ‘Bear Hug’ That Dislocated Her Neck Ligaments

The father of a 1-year-old baby girl has been charged for her sudden death after giving her a intense “bear hug” as she fussed, causing ligaments to be torn in her neck and a swollen brain from lack of oxygen.

According to Law and Crime, Damian Milton has been charged with one count of battery resulting in the death of 1-year-old Amaya Milton, which is a level one felony in the state.

When Damian took his daughter to the hospital, due to trouble breathing, the doctors noticed that Amaya’s injuries were unusual and life-threatening which led to them calling the police department.

Detectives interviewed Damian and he revealed that Amaya was “fussy” all morning and that she became unresponsive after having difficulty breathing. He also claimed that Amaya had fallen and hit her head on the ground two weeks prior. Amaya’s mother happened to be a work during the time of this injury.

Damian admitted in a second investigative interview that he could be a bit aggressive with Amaya before admitting in another interview that he “yanked her by her arm, picked her up, gave her a “bear hug” with her nose and mouth pressed into his chest” as he squeezed her while she gasped for air.

Unfortunately, Amaya remained in the ICU for six days before she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on Aug. 6. The hospital’s Child Protection Team reportedly determined that her injuries could have been caused by being violently shaken.

Damian is currently being held on an $80K bond and is awaiting final determination on charges.
