Former Bad Boy Rapper G. Dep Released From Prison After Serving 13 Years For Murder

After a long 13 years, Ex – Bad Boy rapper, G. Dep, has officially been released from prison! Dep posted a video of his release Thursday on Instagram, showing how thrilled his friends and family were to see him.

According to documents TMZ Hip Hop was able to obtain from the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Dep was freed under the prison’s Limited Credit Time Allowance program, which gives qualifying offenders a six-month credit on their current sentences.

Per court docs, the “Special Delivery” rapper- who’s now 49 — will have to check in with his parole officer, refrain from possessing weapons and drugs without medical authorization, and will have to get permission to leave the State of New York … pretty standard stuff for a newly released ex-con.

G. Dep became a breakout celebrity after signing with Bad Boy Records in the early 2000s. He starred in the breakthrough label hit “Let’s Get It” and won a gold album for his debut album “Child of the Ghetto.” After his wife said he went into a drug-induced stupor, his rap career came to an abrupt stop. In 2010, he confessed to killing a guy over 20 years earlier in a police precinct.

The court that convicted G. Dep and his original prosecutor in the case approved the move, and in December 2023, Governor Kathy Hochul gave Dep clemency.

Instead of waiting until 2025, he can now apply for parole early thanks to this move. Dep is already making teases for new music, so it doesn’t seem like being in prison stopped him from perfecting his rapping. He even earned an associate’s degree during his time locked up!

“That man just did 13 years and y’all took him to ihop for his first meal out y’all wrong,” someone commented. “Enjoy ur freedom these people bout to run down with all the questions,” another person wrote. “The letter boys let him out to turn him into a rat,” someone else added.
